Hospices de Beaune, AOC, 2000, Corton Grand Cru, Cuvee Charlotte Dumay

This is French Pinot Noir at it’s finest. If you are searching for a sophisticated elegant pinot noir with smooth black fruit, cherry, forest undergrowth and a long smooth finish here’s your Catherine Zeta Jones of reds. This wine is not overly fruity the way many North West Ameican pinots can be. There’s no chewyness or raw tanins left on the palate, just silk– sophiticated and luxurious. Considering the price, it is definitely an occasion splurge–and worth every penny.

Food Pairings: This wine is very drinkable now but could easily store for another five years if not longer in good conditions. This is one of those rare wines that is complex and elegant yet cleanses the palate gracefully allowing it to be paired with richer foods.

Technorati Tags: french wine, wine
