I found this quaint little store, L’Epicerie, in Ile St-Louis on a Sunday stroll. One whole wall of this tiny store houses the most beautiful little jars of mustard – at least two hundred flavors (maybe more I wasn’t counting). Mustard with wine, mustard with anchovies, mustard with peppercorns, and on and on. I never knew there could be so many. I thought there was French, Whole grain french, Guidens, Sunshine, and Grey Poupon. Mais non, Il y a beaucoup des flaveurs! I chose one with white wine and roquefort. It’s so good and rich and zingy, I love it! It’s perfect on roast beef sandwhiches and delicious as a marinade for lamb. In fact it was so good that I bought several jars for friends and family. My parents went through a whole jar in two weeks.
On the facing wall in this little boutique, are countless shelves of jams. I haven’t tried those yet, I’m still working my way through the mustards, but I’m looking forward to finishing my quest with some raspberry & violet jam!
