My friend lives in Alabama and when I visited that’s exactly how I remember it how you described the churches and the the people. Gave me a great entertaining read this and brought back some fond memories on the road in the same area.

Amy – I love love love your blog. Found it last year when looking for some recipe and your French years came up. I’m going to Paris in July so saved your blog and was going to revisit it thinking you were still there. Mais non! But the best news is you are going to be HERE where I live in the Bay Area. Have you started at Le Club? I was just on their website and they’re doing dinner service so I assume you are. One food reqeust — please have those lemon beignets on your dessert menu paired with a wonderful dessert wine. Cannot wait to taste that. This made me tear up a bit. I think you have to be from a smalltown to understand what there is to love about it. My family has farmed for at least three generations back and this made me nostalgic for that kind of lifestyle.

The road trip is turning into some of your best writing. The hard part is sustaining the adventure and actually having time to write about it. You may have to give up sleeping, because all the waking hours are fodder for the blog.

I love roadtrips, simply because of the unexpected, and by golly it seems you’re getting yours. The farm reminds me of my brother and s-i-l’s. I’d love to live that life, but not sure if I could cut it. Like to give it a try though. Annie is remarkable as are her interns- keep us posted…..

Ah! this road trip is turning out to be a great bonus as you’re getting an extended family reunion as you head west. Loving how it’s unfolding in front of you and I think I even know where you are. Sort of. In any event I’m pretty certain the road trip is exceeding expectations so far.
I have an idea for the sauerkraut (hoping you will get a steady supply for Le Club) but I’ll leave you to develop something with the kombucha mothers. Dunno, maybe as an eventual basis to create your own vinegars?
